Tamil Uyirmei Letters: 216 Vowel-Consonant Combinations

உயிர்மெய் எழுத்துகள் (uyirmei letters) are formed when a consonant combines with a vowel. Each of the 18 consonants combines with each of the 12 vowels, making 216 forms. For example, க் + ஆ = கா (k + ā = kā), and க் + இ = கி (k + i = ki). The chart shows the full pattern for every consonant.

Look across one row to see a consonant change with each vowel. The first form in every row uses the inherent அ vowel and therefore has no separate vowel mark.

Example: க் + ஆ = கா (k + ā = kā); க் + இ = கி (k + i = ki).
